From 20 to 25 September 2007,representatives of International Humanist Alliance Mr.Andy Williams and Mr.Kjartan Jonson made a visit to Tbilisi to assist in the development of the Georgian Humanist Association and to extend the network of the IHA in Georgia. They conducted Phase One of the IHA ''Training for Teambuilders'' on volunteerism, and various other meetings with local members in order to build strong connections between countries, to help establish the network of the IHA and to start a sharing of information and experience to augment the development of local humanist projects. ‘’The human being is a social-historical being, whose mode of social action transforms their own nature''. We want to emphasize the kinship of volunteerism and idealism. This is especially important in humanist volunteerism. The goal of humanist volunteerism is to contribute to a different future, a future based on real human rights.’’
Andrew Williams ( Scotland ) ‘’Our lives are intertwined in those of the people around us. We are shaped by them, and we influence them. We are who we are because of the things that happened around us and the place where we grew up. If that had been different, we might be different-imagine if you and I had been swapped at birth, how different we each would be. If we where different the world might be a different place’’ Kjartan Jonson ( Iceland ) Of note during the meetings was the establishing by the GHA of a Non-violence Project to take the themes of non-violence to school children, with humanist workshops on non-violence; and plans to create radio programmes illustrating commonalities, and a forum for interchange between the different peoples of the region in order to overcome current differences and conflicts. They will support these efforts whole heartedly, providing all the help and assistance that they can, including setting up a website forum to echo the voices of those who want to overcome these local conflicts. They were touched by the commitment of the people they met in Georgia, everyone they met was so enthusiastic and focused. They look forward to working together in the coming years, and to seeing the part that Georgian Humanists are playing in the Caucuses region and the rest of the world. Already They can recognize our input as a very valid and major contribution to the global development of the IHA. Both Mr.Williams and Mr. Jonson have many years of experience in humanist development work in a diverse range of countries, not least their own homes of Iceland and Scotland, and in bringing together volunteers to work together for a better world, ''to establishing a world fit forth dignity of the human being''.
